The SA Centre for photography brings you an interactive exhibition exploring photography as an artistic medium under the influence of mobile camera applications and social media. This is an exhibition of photography, about photography.
Smartphones have taken position as the present-day Brownie camera - making photography accessible to all at a low cost, requiring minimal effort and virtually no technical skill. Social media provides a platform for images to reach millions of people within seconds. Take a 'pic', add a filter and there you have it; a three second process = a portrait straight out of the 1920's, and its everyone's business. Are those your feet? They look amazing with that border.
Adam Munro's pinhole cameras and intimate prints share the space with Instagram blox and live feeds. Analogue photographer Tarquin Wyeth presents exquisite archival prints alongside his more recent Instagram experiments.
...And the walls are yours too (not just the digital ones).
In this exhibition we don't take sides. We just offer them - and there are more than 2. Come and broaden you understanding of photography. Decide what is High Art, Low Art or 'not art'.
With a new work by Stuart Bird created specifically for the exhibition, as well as an on-site cyanotype by Marcus Viljoen, this is an event not to be missed!
